Folksonomies & Tagging

I really love the bookmarking. I have been save my favorites on to my computer for along time and anytime that I am away from home, I can not find what I want so easy. Now I can.

I had looked in Delicious, Sutherland Shire Libraries tag, Cleveland Public Libraries tags...that is just so good. Lots of popular tags already there, so easy to find something that you want, save it for next visit.

It was interesting when I tool the "Library thing". Love the ideas of having a library at home. It suit quite well for book club(see Noosa book club library thing). Hope there more libraries following "Kingston city council Libraries" add "Library Thing"in their Catalogue. I could see lots of customers are sitting in front of the catalogue computer and searching for stuffs.

RSS Feeds

RSS feeds is a quick way of getting information, news....

Thinking of that you have newspaper from all over the world on your reading table!!!!!!

Where could we start?

Look at the positive side of this. If we like to do some craft, just add the want you really like, if you not read it every week, delete it. We only by newspaper that we want to read, so just select the RSS reader that we want. Therefore, I think RSS is great. I had added "ABS 4 Libraries", "OPAL Training blog", "ABC blogs "...OPAL Training blog has so many link there to support the "Test drive". I had a quick look at some of the heading. It sound so helpful. I will find more time to read this blog. Million blogs out there, if blog has good information, it will has its readers.

RSS Feeds could be added in Libraries website to link with popular authors, libraries newsletters, what happening around town...

Social Networks

When the first time I open my account with Face book and Twitter I got overwhelming with what I was into. Just in a click so many people out there could see whatever information you put on your account. When you want to find friends, face book could access to your email account with your permission to find friends for you,so easy...However on the other side, what other sort of information do they access? I don't know!!!! . A part from that, it is just a great way to contact with friends and family when away from home "no mater short or long".

Face book, My space, Twitter...those social networking are fantastic ways of marketing, interaction with clients specially with young generation. There are so many organizations, social groups, business ... already out there. Just wondering what are beyond this?

What are the most effective social networking utilities as used by libraries, museums and cultural organizations? I think it all depend on what target group you are in. Certainly, for young people using technology is a quick way to get there, for a lots of other group face to face meeting is still the best. For myself, I refer personal contact. However, networking over the Internet is also an importance way this day.

Wikis

I heard about Wiki for a long time, never atempt to using it, maybe I just not sure that I could trust those informations as anyone can add and delete them. I really amazed when I looked at some of the wiki site.

It is a good idea if we could use wiki to do book reviewing on our libraries webside. Readers will be able to share their thought about a book or an author. They could edit, change and save their work over the others and so on.

How about having a wiki on libraries webside for children's multicultual reading program where readers could find a story in English and translate to their own language and changed by other for better result . As an Vietnamese speaker, lots of time pick up a children book with a funny translation ( I really mean funny - the words have no connection to the meaning of the story?????), I lost the interests reading the book to my children.

Online photos sharing

Online photos is great, however I still do not want my photos to go on the net until when I sign up with Flickr and rely that you can choose whom can look up you photos.

I love to go to our library web side and check out what is happening in our and other branches. Reading through difference activity that tag on the photos which it reminded me the old scrapping photos that lots of mothers like to do, the only difference is not keeping at home, everyone can share at the same time and enjoyed the special moment.

Now, other thing I love is you can put commons on to your photos and hoping that our"work" not be used for a wrong purpose. I had spent a bit of time to find out how to do it. It so easy to get every where on the net!!!

Check it out our World Languages selection at our Maroochydore Library's photos.

Just a bit about us

I was born and grown up in Vietnam. I came to Australia about 10 years ago. I started a family, had my first child in Sydney. The place where we were lived there were alots of Vietnamese people. I was very confident that my son will speak Vietnamese.
My husband is Australian, so we speak English with each other. He would speak few words in Vietnamese( just in foods!!!!!), so sometime he say things in Vietnamese. I speak Vietnamese to our son. I do believe he understand what I said.
We moved to Sunshine Coast about 7 years ago. That when the time I feel that I live in a English speaking country. Just a few Vietnamese people around. I still spoke Vietnamese at home with our son.
By 3, he could sing children song in Vietnamese, however he did not spoke in Vietnamese. He can just understand if I ask him to do a few simple things as turn the light on or off, close the door.... parts of the body, things in the house...That time I though that was good enough, I though that my son would speak Vietnamese. I will continue next time.

My goal is teaching my children my mother tongue

I am so lucky to be a bilingual and always want to teach my children my mother tongue. That is still my dream because they could not able to communicate with me in my mother language.
I want to make the dream become alive and hope to able to help other with the same goal to be success.
